It is very important to know a tentative timeline for the project at hand. Your web designer may not have a clear timeline just yet since you both are just starting to dive into the details of the project but make sure to let them know that a reasonable timeline is important to help you stay on track alongside them with the project.

Depending on the website, the timeline could be several months, including going back and forth with revisions, before finalizing the project. Or, it may take a few weeks if it’s a small website and there are no other added services to the project. This also depends at how big or small the project is at hand. Larger websites with more complex features like a shop can take much longer than a simple basic 5 page website.

2. Who will host the website?

It is important to know who will be hosting the website during the build time and after the project is complete. Most web designers will help you setup your own hosting service while others have a hosting service that they provide for their clients. You want to make sure you know what options your website designer has for this as well as what the cost for it is if you choose to host through them.

3. What is your design process from start to finish?

It is important to get a clear picture on what the design process looks like from start to finish. Every web designer works differently and has different stages to their projects. Knowing what these design stages are makes the project more easy to understand. It will also help you stay in the loop on where your web designer is at on the project.

Please always keep in mind that timelines are tentative as well. There may be slight fluctuation in the timeline give or take a week or two early or later. This can be due to delay in communication or errors that may have occurred during the build.

4. What is the best form of communication throughout this project?

Some web designers use just email while others use some form of CRM like Honeybook. It is important to know how your designer likes to communicate with you and/or your team about this project. Do they use a Google Drive folder or DropBox to send large files back and forth? Make sure you know how they handle this aspect of the project as well for communication and sending files.
